Quebec is the electric-heat province. In 2023, 70% of Quebec households heated mainly with electricity, with natural gas at 5% and wood at 4%, according to Statistics Canada. For heat pump installers, that turns the sales conversation around: the customer is not switching fuels, they are getting more heat out of the same electricity and adding cooling. Grants are paid by the utility and scaled to equipment capacity.
HeatPumpNews.ca markets and advises heat pump businesses. We are not a contractor and don't install equipment. This page summarises Quebec for installers as of October 2026.
The Quebec market and its buyers
The answer first: baseboard homes, electric-furnace homes and rental multiplexes are the three markets that matter.
- Baseboard-heated houses and condos. Wall-mounted units are the natural fit. The pitch is lower winter bills and summer comfort.
- Electric forced-air homes. Central heat pumps replace or work with an electric furnace.
- Older rental multiplexes. A distinct B2B audience of building owners, now with a bonus aimed squarely at them. See our story on the Quebec multiplex heat pump bonus.
- Small commercial buildings. Served under Hydro-Québec's separate business program, which we cover in Solutions efficaces changes from March 2026.
Climate and seasonality
Quebec winters are cold and snowy, with a long heating season that gets harsher outside the St. Lawrence lowlands. That puts cold-climate performance at the centre of every quote, and it is also why LogisVert pays more than twice as much for cold-climate units. Summer heat waves drive cooling demand and a burst of installs; autumn is when rebate-led messaging works best.
Programs to watch, as of October 2026
Hydro-Québec's LogisVert guide, version 1.10 dated 2026-09-15, sets the rules installers need:
- Grant amount. $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8°C for an ENERGY STAR unit; $120 per 1,000 BTU/h for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate unit.
- Equipment. New, ENERGY STAR certified, with an outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h in cooling mode, bought in Quebec or from a Quebec-based seller.
- Contractor. Registered with the Registraire des entreprises, holding the right RBQ licences, and a member of its sector's corporation.
- Timing. The request must reach Hydro-Québec within nine months of installation.
- Multiplex bonus. For installations from 2026-06-15, an extra $100 per 1,000 BTU/h for cold-climate wall-mounted units in eligible older multiplexes in designated zones, for a total of $220.
The former Chauffez vert aid for replacing oil or propane systems stopped accepting applications after 2026-03-31. The federal oil-to-heat-pump grant also closed in Quebec on 2026-07-31. Confirm every current term with Hydro-Québec or the government before quoting.
Regulators and language
The RBQ licenses contractors, and the CCQ certifies construction-industry workers. Language rules for commercial communication are set out by the OQLF. We name these bodies and plan around their existence; legal and compliance questions go to them or to a qualified adviser.
How we would market a Quebec installer
- French-first everything. Pages, ads, Google Business Profile and quote follow-ups written in Quebec French, with English as a second option where it helps.
- A grant calculator page. A plain explanation of "dollars per 1,000 BTU/h at -8°C" with a worked example and an as-of date. See program landing pages.
- An owner-focused multiplex funnel. Building owners need eligibility checks, tenant-bill explanations and a direct line to a senior estimator.
- Show the RBQ number. It is required on the invoice anyway; put it on the website too. Our installer websites do this by default.
Results from our HVAC work include HeatLand, with a 300% lead increase in 6 months. See results, or call, text or email about your Quebec market.
Frequently asked questions
How is the LogisVert heat pump grant calculated?
According to Hydro-Québec's guide (version 1.10, dated 2026-09-15), the grant is $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8°C for an ENERGY STAR heat pump, or $120 per 1,000 BTU/h for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate model. The amount is set by installation date. Confirm current terms with Hydro-Québec.
What is the LogisVert multiplex bonus?
For installations from 2026-06-15, owners of eligible multiplexes in Hydro-Québec's designated energy-poverty zones can add $100 per 1,000 BTU/h for cold-climate wall-mounted units, bringing the total to $220. Buildings must date from 1995 or earlier, among other conditions.
What licence does a Quebec installer need for a LogisVert job?
The guide requires the company to be registered with the Registraire des entreprises, hold the appropriate RBQ licences and belong to its sector's corporation. Invoices must show the RBQ licence number. We link to the RBQ but don't give compliance advice.
Should Quebec heat pump marketing be in French?
Yes. Your customers search and buy in French, and Quebec's language rules apply to commercial communications. We plan French-first pages and ads for Quebec installers.
